Granata Music Ltd · Ottawa, ON

The Granata timeline
The history of Granata Music is a story of family, growth, and a long-standing belief that music creates stronger communities.
The beginning
Granata Music began in 1984 when Nello Granata, a lifelong music enthusiast, opened a small shop in Ottawa.
With only books and guitar strings on the shelves, the store was built on passion rather than scale. The goal was simple: create a welcoming place for musicians, regardless of age or experience.
The next generation
In 2008, the business entered a new era when Nello passed the torch to his son, Gino Granata.
With a renewed vision, Granata Music expanded its lesson programs and broadened its selection of instruments, growing from a retail space into a full musical hub.
Beyond retail
Through coffee houses, student showcases, lessons, and in-store events, Granata Music became a gathering place for musicians across Ottawa.
Shared performances, quiet practice, new friendships, and the confidence that comes from learning an instrument are all part of what defines the store today.
Looking ahead
As Granata Music continues to grow, its mission remains unchanged: keep music central to Ottawa’s cultural life.
Thank you for being part of the story. The next chapter is still being written.
Built around people
Granata Music is shaped by the people who walk through the doors: first-time students, parents, teachers, local performers, working musicians, hobby players, and creators.
The store exists to help those people move forward, whether that means choosing a first instrument, preparing for a performance, repairing a trusted guitar, or bringing a new recording to life.
What guides Granata Music
The store has changed over time. The principles haven’t.
